LA River Campouts: LA River Campout #5

The LA River Campout is one of the most popular programs at the Bowtie Project. These family-friendly campouts allow Angelenos a chance to camp inside the city, on the scenic banks of the LA River.
The LA River Campouts last one night, and include a traditional campfire program presented by Mountains Recreation & Conservation Authority. Clockshop, CA State Parks and National Park Service offers campers additional programs; in the past, these programs have included astronomy workshops, after-dark tours, artist talks, and campfire sing-a-longs. Clockshop also provides a food vendor for dinner and morning coffee, as gas stoves and cooking fires are not allowed on site. Campers without supplies have the option of borrowing tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads at no cost, courtesy of CA State Parks’ FamCamp trailer program.
Due to the popularity of the LA River Campouts, campers are admitted by lottery. There are 75 tent sites available, and priority is given to urban youth groups and first-time Bowtie campers. Join our mailing list to be notified of upcoming Urban Campouts.
LA River Campouts are an initiative of CA State Parks and are presented in partnership with Clockshop, the National Park Service and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority.

BOWTIE PROJECT SHOP
Bowtie Project Tote
Based on a 1930 blueprint for the historic Taylor Yard, this double-sided tote bag illustrates portions of the Bowtie Project as well as surrounding street names from the Bowtie-adjacent neighborhoods of Atwater Village, Frogtown and Glassell Park.
Bowtie Project Postcards
This postcard multi-pack features images of Clockshop-commissioned work produced at the Bowtie Project. The pack includes six 5”x7” full-color postcards.
Soil + Sun Herbarium
In 2017, Clockshop commissioned renowned ecologist and professional forager Nance Klehm to create an herbarium, archiving the botanic life at the Bowtie Project and within the LA River.
