Bowtie Youth Council
2020 – 2021
The Bowtie Project
ESPAÑOL
The Bowtie Youth Council (BYC) is a space for a group of youth to convene and ideate about the development of the future Bowtie Park. During this year-long initiative from 2020–21, members advanced their advocacy for green open space by gaining skills in public outreach, meeting facilitation and learning to create compelling stories that influence public and civic policy. Council members are compensated for their work and are connected to experts in the field. This program builds on efforts since 2014 to gather community members to transform this industrial site into parkland that serves residents.
After a year of community engagement around the Bowtie, the Bowtie Youth Council presented their findings and a list of demands to California State Parks. California State Parks responded with a list of commitments in response.
