Welcome to our Park Stories series – new stories for 2023!
Dwight
There is so much going on in our world that is negative, it is important that we have positive spaces, like parks, in our world too.
Huck and Hab
When we are at the park we feel happy and great because there is nature that we get to play in. If we bring a soccer ball we can pretend the trees are a goal and shoot the ball in-between them with our Mom.
Randi and Madison
We live in an apartment so I find it important to bring her to the park. This park is easily accessible and provides a free green space for Madison to explore outside, breathe fresh air, and feel the grass under her feet.
Abdiel
Many countries integrate parks into their urban infrastructure, LA on the other hand requires people to drive to the closest public park.
Hannah
I think it is important that people have access to parks because we need to be in nature. It’s not healthy to be surrounded by cement constantly. It’s essential for our brains to have all of our senses activated, to get the smells and the sights and feelings and everything.
James and Sean
As a couple who works professionally in public health and policy, we see public parks as an integral part of any thriving community. Public parks are spaces where kids, families, friends, pets, and community members can gather to have fun and rest.

I think parks are maybe strategically placed in places where the public needs them, where families need a place to be distracted on the weekends–neighborhoods where the houses are small, where families need to go someplace to play, or to make carne asada, it’s important to have a park nearby!

What is a city but the space outside your home? If you don’t have a yard, parks allow you to have one.
Ashley and Matt
The gondola would take away the sky from those using the park. It would make it impossible to have an event like this. It violently slices through a space that is currently characterized by and celebrated for its openness and privatizes the sky.
Lars and Esme
The kite festival points at the riches of community in LA, and how a public space that’s cared for can help us collectively realize the best aspects of all being packed in this one city together.
