Oscar

As the kite festival began we found Oscar painting under the shade of a tree. Oscar, an impressionist plein air painter, arrived at the park to meet his painting group. Spread across his canvas were a mixture of purples and orange, the beginning of his re-creation of the park’s view of downtown Los Angeles. “The Los Angeles State Historical Park always inspires me with its green grass and sloping hills, crossed by a creek and a scenic bridge, and dotted with trees. Today the kite festival brought people and kites of all shapes, sizes, and colors. I tried to capture a glimpse of it on my canvas,” he said.

One of his favorite memories of the park happened in the company of his painting group. “Just as the sun was setting, the sprinklers came on. We all had to scatter and grab our equipment at the same time.”
