South of Fletcher: Stories from the Bowtie is a multi-platform storytelling project by Fonografia Collective. Ruxandra Guidi and Bear Guerra have been working at the Bowtie parcel for the past year, talking to people who frequent the site, and learning more about the historic, present day, and potential uses of this unique plot of land next to the LA River. Their research will unfold through a podcast series, three public discussions, and an exhibition of photography at Occidental College.
On September 13, join us for the opening of South of Fletcher: Stories from the Bowtie at Occidental College’s Weingart Gallery. This exhibition of Bear Guerra’s photographs, which document the life, rhythms and relics of this site, will run from September 13 to November 4.
Fonografia Collective is a collaboration between Ruxandra Guidi and Bear Guerra. Fonografia believes in empathetic and culturally-sensitive documentary storytelling about everyday people around the world. Fonografia finds and crafts compelling stories about human rights, politics, the environment, and social issues and share them with the general public using radio, photography, the printed word, multimedia, public installations and events. Since 2005, Fonografia has been working together to advance a vision of a more inclusive and diverse approach to nonfiction storytelling, focusing on communities and issues across the U.S. and Latin America that are often underrepresented or misunderstood by the mainstream media.
