Description

We are excited to continue our partnership with LA Más by curating the cultural programming at the Somos NELA Night Market. Somos NELA is a family-friendly, and community-centered market that uplifts local artisans, working class families, people of color, and small businesses in Northeast LA.  Join us May 15 from 6:00–9:00 PM for an evening of live music, food, and drink. The night will feature a special performance by The Izote Ensemble, an accomplished chamber group composed of Pablo Méndez (father) and Pablo Méndez (son), Milan Méndez, Alfredo Ortiz and Christian Moraga; hailing from El Salvador, Cuba, México, and Chile. This musical group is united by both familial ties and a shared artistic vision, the ensemble represents a unique synthesis of cultural heritage and musical excellence.

In addition to the performance, Clockshop and artist LaRissa Rogers invite you to participate in an open call for objects that hold personal meaning and reflect the place you call home. This call is part of subterranean convergence, a sculptural installation and performance score by Rogers, opening at LA State Historic Park in Fall 2026.

Join us for a hands-on 3D scanning and photo keychain workshop. Bring an object that reminds you of home and learn how to turn photographs into a 3D scan. Selected objects will be featured in Clockshop’s upcoming artist commission debuting this fall. After the workshop, you’ll also have the chance to create and decorate your own photo keychain to take home.

No RSVP Required

This programming is an extension of our ongoing oral history project, Take Me to Your River: A Cultural Atlas of the LA River, where each month we will invite a local artist or performer to lead a workshop at the market. This performance is a collaboration with Irresistble Resistance, a series of cultural activations spearheaded by curator Ed Patuto, whose goal is to bring customers to local businesses who have been struggling economically as a result of the raids by US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
